Ripoff Don't believe the hype GE DOESN'T care!

My GE Profile stainless steel freezer broke down (stopped refrigerating) July 5. I call in independent fridge repairman since I believe service contract has expired. I pay $53 to learn "evaporator change-out" required, will cost $790 to repair. I reread GE Manufacturer's warranty, and to my relief discover that parts and labor are warranteed 5 years if internal evaporator breaks down. Called GE for service, confirmed it IS covered.

First visit July 11th. Repairmen arrive, say parts need to be ordered, they will come back a week later. Parts ordered. Parts not received by a week later, so visit rescheduled. Parts received finally. Called to reschedule new repair appointment. Repair visit scheduled July 25th. Live two weeks without ice or ability to freeze or refrigerate food during hottest months of summer. Serviceman misses alotted time slot to visit (he was supposed to come between 11am to 5pm, arrives 6:15pm when I am out). (GE Cares!) Have to call to reschedule NEW visit. They tell me the earliest they can get here is August 14th! I complain, they reschedule to August 4th. (GE cares!)

On August 4th two repairmen arrive, say are STILL more parts that need to be ordered. I complain and ask why the previous repairmen didn't order those parts. The repairmen shrug. (GE cares!) They "temporarily fix" fridge to work until next scheduled visit, Aug. 9th. But say the gas used to cool the fridge will leak out again, but not to worry, since my fridge will be repaired by then. I mistrust their words, especially when I notice that after their "repair" the freezer light has stopped working. I point this out, and one repairmen says, "O, you need to replace those when they burn out." (GE Cares!) I say, it can't have burned out already. I argue with them until they check it, and they realize they didn't screw it in all the way. Ha! I buy groceries.

When no one arrives August 9th I call GE and automated phone says the visit is for August 10th. On evening of Aug. 9th I am left msg that "part is on backorder, when it arrives reschedule visit." I call GE and speak to 3 people to try to find out when part will arrive. No one knows. New groceries are spoiling in fridge again. No one even knows if part is being MADE anymore, it's just on "back order". Have made only one good connection there, a CS rep named Tara, who promises to call me back tomorrow with news of when/if the back ordered part will ever be made, but its obviously she can't do much more than that. Whats worse is knowing that even if part ever arrives, the fridge will have failed again by the time GE can send in another repairman to actually come visit to INSTALL it.

I have been without ice and refrigeration for almost a month, from an appliance that is just at the end of its 5 year warranty. GE DOESN'T CARE! That whole "GE cares" advertising campaign is a joke given the state of their incredibly unorganized and slacking repair department. Would at least like them to come out and "charge up" the fridge again to work until actual repairs are made.
