My daughter told that her Smeg fridge freezer would be repaired no matter what was wrong with it for £165. Provided that it was not over 20 years old and the parts could still be obtained. The fridge was 7 years old. The fridge was at one of my daughters rental properties. The repair man came out on Thursday and my daughter heard nothing at all until the following week when her tennant rang to ask what was happening over the fridge. My daughter rang the company and the engineer subcontracted to do the work. They both said the parts would be £400 and they were not prepared to repair it at this cost to them. The advert was that we will repair no matter what but you must pay the £165 up front, which she did in all good faith.

She then asked for a refund of. This company said they would refund her £120, taking out £45 for the engineers visit. They did not repair the fridge, they did not inform her what was happening, and they duly refunded £120, leaving her £45 out of pocket.

They eventually came up with the excuse that my daughter had not told them it was an american style fridge/freezer. When she informed them that no one asked her that question, the company said they had her on tape stating it was not that particular type of fridge. My daughter asked to listen to the voice recording of her, they said that THEY had listened to it and that was enough for them. After weeks of arguing my daughter gave up the fight. Just to let people know DO NOT PART WITH £165 before they come out!!! You will be charged for the engineer even if they cannot fix the product.
