I hired Mainer Building Services of Concord, NC to build a handicap ramp that meets ADA requirements on our back deck. The work was never completed as they walked off the job one day and never returned.
After numerous phone calls which were never answered (messages went on a answering machine) nor were any of the calls returned. I had to finish the ramp myself. The work on the last section of the ramp was terrible, plus work on other sections needed to be corrected. I had to re-do the defective workmanship plus buy a miter saw to complete the ramp myself (over 8 days at 8 to 10 hours a day). This ramp was for my 92 year old mother who is now living with us. I am 62 years old with a heart condition and completing the ramp was not an easy task, matter of fact it was very difficult for me. This was why I hired a contractor to do the job.
The contract also stated that the contractor, Mainer Building Services was to have the county inspect the ramp. This was never done, plus the footers were never poured... This I had to complete also.
This contractor is very good at what he does as one of the reasons I hired him (when we signed the contract he brought his daughter with him, she was very well mannered and he acted like the perfect family man) is that he said and did all the right things. Very slick talker, very good at deception.
This is not the person who stated that you have nothing to worry about and he will do a fine job and I will be more than satisfied when he is finished. I am anything but satisfied with the service that was provided, the the work which was very poor in most cases and was never finished, nor were any of my phone calls returned after the contractor walked off the job. He is a poor example of a contractor. Do not use this contractor. Beware!!!
