The Roomstore
Broken promises, shoddy service, screw you attitude and outright lies Ripoff

On April 29th, my wife took her mother to the Roomstore at 59th Ave and Bell Road in Glendale, to purchase some living room and bedroom furniture for the addition we built to our house for her.

She paid cash for the items which was a six drawer chest, two three door night stands, and an end table. The Sales Person told them that to deliver to Congress would be an additional $45.00. My wife told her to call when it came in and I would pick it up. When the call came in, I drove to the warehouse on the opposite side of Phoenix, and found that only the six drawer chest had come in. I was told the rest should be there in a week. A week later the Roomstore called and said the end table was in but not the night stands. I called a week later to the store and spoke to a woman who answered the phone and asked about the night stands. She checked and told me they would not be in until the following week, and because of the delay, inconvience and distance to travel, she would have it delivered to the store which was much closer.

I called the week when I had been told it would be in and found the night stands were not in yet. I then spoke to the salesperson and asked her what the delay getting the furniture was. She gave me a song and dance that the furniture was not ordered until it was purchased. I then asked her about delivery to us and she told me it was $90.00 for delivery. I told her that she had told my wife when they bought the furniture that delivery was $45.00. She denied that and told me my wife was wrong.
My wife found a message on our phone recorder that the entire purchase was finally in and could be picked up. I called the store and was told by the recepionist or whoever it was, that the furniture was at the warehouse on the east side of Phoenix. I told her what the other person told me and she said they could not do that because, "It would be a Fire Hazard."

At that point I had had enough of the delays and stories and told her that. I finally decided she was in no position to do anything constructive and hung up.
I then told my wife who called the store and demanded to know why they treat old returning customers so badly. She told them in the past we had purchased an entire living room suite, and a bedroom suite and wasn't there any kind of loyalty to old returning customers.
The delivery cost was then qouted to her as now $99.00, but another day for delivery suddenly appeared, instead of just the third Wednesday, they also delivered to our area on the first Wednesday. She was also told that if we wanted to pickup the furniture it would be at the store on Wednesday. "I guess the fire hazard isn't as bad as first suspected?"

In short, I feel we have been lied to, that we were not told ahead of time when I first went to pickup the furniture that the enitre purchase would not be there, that a representative of the store said that because of the inconvience to us the furniture could be picked up at the store, that we have been given differnet stories on when the furniture would be available, that the furniture could not be delivered to the store because it was a fire hazard, that the price of delivery went up twiced from $45.00 to $90.00 and then $99.00, that the furniture could now be picked up at the store, and that they delivered only on the third Wednesday of the month to our area, and magically another delivery date came up.
We will not go back to the Roomstore, we will never purchase anything else from the Roomstore, and we will make a concentrated effort to make sure all of our friends and anyone who might be looking for furniture know what we've gone through at the Roomstore.
I'll be going to the Roomstore this coming Wednesday to pickup the furniture, I wonder what will happen?
