I’m disappointed

I bought a Toshiba in June and immediately afterwards I bought the four year warranty. I usually don't waste my money on these things but something told me to invest in the plan.

Good thing I did.

On March 1st 2008 the computer simply died. I took it to a local Circuit City and they said that the hard drive had crashed. I took it to the IT department here at work (I work for a major New York based television company) and they agreed with the diagnosis.

To be fair, the City Advantage folks got me a box three days after I called in the report on that Saturday.By Tuesday night it was on it's way back to it's repair centre in Texas.

I got it back in about a week with a new hard drive. No explanation of why. No data retrieved. Just the computer back minus all the programs that I then spent the better part of a week returning to the computer. (Thank God I saved the discs).

All was fine until May 17th when the computer crashed. Again. Yes the hard drive failed again. I took it to the same Circuit City and showed it to the same IT department and all concluded that the hard drive that Circuit City put in there was defective.

So this time it took the City Advantage plan TWO WEEKS to get me a box and now on June 4th it's going back to Texas.

Back in 1992 I bought a desktop computer that was pretty low grade but it lasted me the better part of ten years. It's INSANE that these days’ laptops don't make it even three years and it's WORSE that they will now have replaced the entire hard drive TWICE in just three months.

Maybe it's time I switched to a Mac.
