I purchased a 2011 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD in May. Two months later the transmission would disengage while at a stop and reegage upon start causing a hard lurch forward. I brought the car into the dealer and, at first, they didn't find any service bulletins, but the engineers at Ford pointed them to a plate in the transmission valve body. After waiting a few weeks for the part, they installed it. On the way home from picking up the vehicle, it slowed down and started lurching. I barely made it home. The dealer came and picked up the car to run some more tests. The engineers at Ford recommended redownloading the program for the vehicle, so the local techs did that. The tech said the Ford engineers wanted some more miles on it so he took it home with him. About five miles from his house, he had the vehicle jumping in and out of gear so bad that he said he almost hit his face on the steering wheel. They now have the vehicle in the shop and Ford is recommending a tear down of the transmission. I complained to Ford and asked to get a new vehicle, but they have denied. I am very frustrated and disappointed! Even if this is repaired, I will never trust this vehicle again... And I will never buy an American car again. I bought a Ford because they didn't take buyout money and wanted to spend the money in our country. I now regret this decision.
