Wanted to charge $1,000.00 for unecessary work

I took my vehicle in for an Alignment and brake inspection. I just purchased it and noticed the brakes were squeaking a bit. So, about 2 hours later I get a call from Service. They tell me that I need new brakes all the way around, my rear wheel cylinders are leaking, the front wheel bearings need to be replaced, the rotors need to be replaced because they can no longer be turned down etc etc etc. And... It will cost $940.00 dollars and change.
Now, granted, I am a woman, and I took Auto Shop in High School and working on cars a small but myself, well... Let's just say I know a little more than I probably need to. Plus the fact that I just bought the ride the day before, I couldn't imagine the dealer not doing an inspection on their cars before selling them. To top it off, they had a female call me, so I'm guessing a female employee to call female customers, maybe the customer would go for it... And she tells me I need all that work done for the safety of the vehicle. I told her to just do the Alignment, note everything on the receipt with pricing because I need to go back to the dealer to approve the work.
I then called the hubby, told him what was up and he suggested going to the Pep Boys in Anaheim Hills where we have gotten quite a bit of work done and have had honesty from them. Like telling us we don't need a brake job when we thought we needed it and a few other things we thought we might have needed and they said no. That was honesty enough for us. So, I took the ride up there, asked for a brake inspection, and after about an hour they said the front brakes were fine. Come back in 10 mins and we'll tell you what the back brakes look like. We came back in 10 mins and they said I still have 90% brakes all the way around. The reason for the squeaking is they put on cheaper pads and it will squeak until I change them. I said ok, well someone mentioned the rear wheel cylinders might be leaking. He ran back out to ask the mechanic while my car was still up on the racks and comes back and says no, they are fine. So... Bottom line, the feckers in Costa Mesa are lieing arses and should be reported to Pep Boys Corporate, which I will be doing next.
