It has been over a two years now since this happened but I didn't know this rip off report thing existed.
Here is the basic story.
I had a toyota van wagon that had a wide variety of issues as it was getting old and had seen better days.
It was having overheating problems so I investigated it and after figuring out it was not the thermostat I figured it might be the water pump. I went to Pep boys and they said they would examine the vehicle and make sure it was the water pump. They later stated that it was.
They replaced the water pump and I came and paid the bill. About 12 miles down the road right as I was getting home the vehicle was massively overheatings and I pulled into the parkinglot at home as smoke was rolling out of it.
I had already previously got a new starter, battery, windshield and then on top of that this water pump thing made me realize it must be time to move on so i got another vehicle.
Two weeks later I went outside to check it out, lifted the seat (engine is underneath center of front two seats) and when I looked at the water pump area. I noticed there was NO BELT. No belt at all. I got it towed back to pep boys at their expense and only had a small discussion before i was treated to them putting the belt on free of charge.
Three years before this I took another car I had in there that was in dire need of a tune up in addition to the new starter.
The man they had work on my car did the starter and then worked on the car for about 30 minutes putting it in tip top shape just by tightening and working with tools. I later found out this man was fired because he did this thing often. Couldn't they just offer a cheapie tune up thing for Ten bucks? Hundreds of people would jump on that, but no. They'd just rather the loose parts fell off and the cars that came to them needed more repairs.
I just want pep boys to know Because of that man I came to them ten times in a two year period. And now I will never, ever come back.
