Wal-Mart Supercenter
Ripoff faulty oil change

I'm reporting this for my son-in-law. He took his van in to the local Wal-Mart Supercenter for an oil change. When they were finished, he paid the bill, and left for home. He was only 3 blocks from Wal-Mart when the van stopped. The engine was totally ruined... They had failed to add the new oil to the van. They drained the old oil, and that's where they stopped. They didn't add new oil. He called Wal-Mart, and they laughed and said to bring it in and they would fix it.

After towing the van to Wal-Mart (at his expense, not theirs), they told him they couldn't fix it, and that he would need to take it to another service shop. He made several calls to the district office of Wal-Mart and got the royal run around. On the phone, they agreed to pay for a new engine, and to pay for a rental car during the time the van was being repaired. Well, good luck getting them to do that.

After weeks of waiting, and waiting, they finally said they would only pay for a rebuilt engine, not a new one, because they felt that since the van was not new, it didn't need a new engine. They also tried to retract their offer to pay for a rental car. He needed a vehicle to get to work (30 miles from his home), and yet they didn't think he needed to have a car. How they thought he could get to work is anybody's guess. After much arguing, and months of waiting, they did finally get the van running again, but they didn't pay the entire bill, nor did they pay the entire amount for the rental car.

I've read thru the complaints made by others about Wal-Mart's shoddy and irresponsible work done in their service area, and after reading them, and knowing first hand how they work there, I would suggest that NO ONE ever take their vehicle in for an oil change, tire rotation or change, or any other type of service. To do so would only mean that you are willing to play a game of rip-off roulette with your vehicle.
