I took my '97 Isuzu Rodeo to an AAMCO franchise in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I reported some slippage in first gear that had become progressively worse over the past weeks.
They assured me they would do "complete diagnostic testing" before giving me a quote. An hour or so later, they called. After "complete diagnostic testing, " they had determined that the "forward clutches" inside the transmission needed to be replaced. To do so, they would need to do a complete rebuild of the transmission. It would cost me $1,500.
Since I did not HAVE $1,500, I figured it was worth getting a second opinion... I decided to take it to an Isuzu dealership in town.
Guess what? I had a bad pan gasket. THREE QUARTERS of my fluid was gone. The dealership topped off the fluid, and... PROBLEM SOLVED! Granted, I had to pay $180 for a new gasket, but please!
According to AAMCO, "complete diagnostic testing" did not include CHECKING THE FLUID!!! I was actually told "there's nothing we can do from the outside." How do they continue to get away with this?
