Purchased a extended warranty, cost of $1590 plus $95.40 for sales tax on a new car, traded car in after 2 yrs and was told that since we never used the extended warranty that we were due a refund.
Check arrived short $686.90, was told that it was pro-rated from the day of purchase. We were told that there would be a small service fee to cancel, which turned out to be $35. We have no problem with the cancellation fee. Since the manufacturers warranty is in effect for the first 3yrs/36000 miles and the car we traded in was 2 yrs old and had only 24126 miles on it, we contend that we never used any portion of the extended warranty nor if we had needed a repair, the manufacturers warranty would have taken care of any repairs and that the extended warranty only took care of repairs after the 3yrs/36000 miles.
I feel this company mislead us into thinking that #1 that if we didn't buy the contract at the time of purchase that it would cost us a signifigant amount more than if we were to purchase it at a later time and #2 that we would be due a refund of any unused portion, and since the extended warranty is not usable until the manufacturers normal warranty expires, I feel we should be due a full refund. GM is ripping the consumer's off!!!
