I bought a Schumacher jump starter from Walmart. Yeah, I hate shopping there but figured if I went anywhere else it would still be a Chinese made piece of crap, just more expensive.
So I get to the checkout and the cashier rings it up. She asks me if I want to purchase an extended warranty for $3. She basically said if anything went wrong during the warranty time I would just have to fill something out online, take it to UPS and they would send me a gift card for what I paid for it.
She showed me the Product Replacement Plan card that says:
FRONT:
'If the unexpected happens
Replace it fast
In as little as 24 hours*
Fast and easy
Transferable
1-Year of protection'
BACK:
Among other things,
'The Product Replacement Plan protects you from the expense and inconvenience of unexpected repairs. Plus, your covered product is replaced in days, not weeks.'
The only place I could find an * was inside, and below that it said:
'*24 hour product replacement requires:
(1) valid email address
(2) return of the failed product to
UPS for shipping the same day
your claim is approved'
I can't believe I'm going through all of this over a $3 warranty and $50 product. But it's the fact that they deceive anyone to get an extra buck. I only bought the warranty because I thought I might be pressed for time if I need to replace it. I'm going to call the 1-800 number tomorrow and see what they say. I don't know why they would say anything other than the website told me, but I'll check and let you all know what happens. Either way, I am through shopping at Walmart unless I'm in dire need of something.
