Salesman left out "other charges" when going over sales contract! Cost me an extra $5,322 for my car!

I purchased a 2010 toyota camry 8/22/09. The salesman went over the contract with myself and my fiance. He told us the cash price of the car with sales tax was $23,769. He said the dealer gave me $7,500 for my trade in (2003 BMW 3-series). Since I owed $11,177 there would be a net trade-in added to the price of the car.

This added price was $3,677 to the car making the unpaid balance of the car $23,769 including the sales tax. The financing would come to $484.87 months for 60 months. I was a little surprised with the high monthly payment, but glad it was under $500.

So off I went with my new car! But low and behold I got the shock of my life when I pulled out my sales contract recently to review it because I was thinking of a trade in on one of the new 2012 Camrys. I was intrigued by the new body style!

At the very bottom of the sales contract was the wording "Total other charges and amounts paid to others on your behalf! This amount was $5,322 added on to the $23,769 which made the price of the car $29,092. I showed it to my fiance thinking maybe I was naive and he said he had never heard of that before. He also commented that the salesman never went over that part and explained what it meant.

I wrote to Toyota corporation with this discovery and as usual they passed the buck on and said I needed to contact the customer manager at the dealership where I bought the car. I am planning on doing that today so I will let you know the result. But I still felt the need to register this complaint before I spoke to this manager. This is not how you do business by hiding a signifigant piece of information on the contract.

I know I'm responsible for it because I did sign it. But also in all fairness, I think I should of had it explained to me. Anyone that I've talked to as never heard of such a wording on a contract.

I'll keep everyone up to date on what is going on with this probloem (but I don't expect much resolution). So if you plan on going to this dealership I would go over the contract very carefully, ask the salesman lots of questions and maybe just bring an attorney with you to read over it!
