I was told that my Saturn L100 smelled like gas and the check engine light was on. I was told that there was a gas leak, they did not even check to see if the gas cap was on right. It was not. They charged me for 3.5 hours of labor which included the time on the diagnostic. The next day my check engine soon light came back on. It was the gas cap. The difference in a $100 diagnosis and a $750 gas pump replacement.
I watched the man who was working on my car sitting around, he took two breaks between 9 and 12. I was outside the shop most of the time and my car was unattended.
The manager who estimated my repairs was wrong and unethical. I had a gas smell coming from my car. Of course it needs to be fixed. I don't want the car to blow up. He was so happy I agreed to the high amount that he kept it, and did not adjust it was was actually done and in what amount of time.
My gas cap was not on properly, that was the problem. I am not sure that they even replaced the fuel pump, but they held my car for 3.5 hours to get the extra charges for labor.
