Cottman Transmission - Trans. Shoppe 1964 Won't do Warranty work or refund money ripoff

On 10/13/03 we went to Cottman Transmission and ask to check out the transmission on our 1986 Winnebago Elandan 31-ft. R.V. Mike said they found metal pieces in the pan and on the filter and said it needed a new torque converter and the transmission needed to be rebuilt.

He quoted us a price of 1,703.44 with a 24-month or 24,000 mile warranty. We trusted his judgment and professional ability to repair the trans.

On 10-22 we paid for the work and went to the Koa campground in St. Pete about 6 miles away. We left Florida on our way back home to Chicago, IL. We got to Nashville, Ten. And the trans blew up. It broke the trans case and the Flywheel and all the internal parts. We had it towed to the Cottman in Nashville Ten on 10/31.

Two weeks later they called and said it was done. On 11-10 I took a plane back to Nashville and picked up the R.V. And started home again.

All was well until I got about 5 miles from home and the trans blew up again. I called the Cottman in Mchenry, IL. They said they didn't have room to do the work the R.V. Because it was too big. Called costumer service and they said to tow it to a repair shop that could get it in. So we had it towed to Botts Truck Repair and told them about it and they said they would talk to Cottman and do the warranty work with Cottman.

Now our R.V. Is still at the repair shop and has been for two months and no work has been done. Customer service said they don't have anything to do with the warranty and the Cottman in Nashville says they will not warranty the work. They refunded the money back to Cottman in Fl. Now the Cottman in Fl. Says they wont give us our money back and they cant find anyone to take the trans out for $300.00. That's all they want to pay.
We asked for our money back and they don't want to do that either.

We went to Small Claims Court and filed. We go to Court on Jan. 22.

We want this to get on the report so it doesn't happen to other people.

This is the amount we had to pay.
Rebuilt trans. $1,703.44
Towing in Ten. $205.00
Air fair and taxi. $150.00 $90.00 = $240.00
Towing in IL. $158.00
Repair Shop BOTTS. $144.00
Total out of pocket Amount. $2,450.44

On 11-11 Called Mchenry Cottman and they said the R.V. Is too big and call customer service to find out where to take it and Carol said to have it towed to a R.V. Repair place and it got towed to Botts in Woodstock, IL.

On 11-12 at 4:51pm talked to Carol at customer service.

On 11-12 at 6:05pm Talked to Pat at Cottman in Mchenry and she said they would do the warranty work if an Independent mechanic can take out the transmission because the R.V. Wont fit in there shop.

On 11-13 at 5:35pm Talked to Donna at Cottman customer service and she said that Carol knows more about it.

On 11-14 at 9:22am talked to Lisa at customer service.

On 11-14 at 2:53pm talked to Pat at Mchenry Cottman and said she has been in touch with the Operations manager and will get back to me and never did.

On 11-17 at 11:30am talked to Pat at Mchenry Cottman and she said she's waiting for Mike in St. Pete Cottman to call and to pay for the work that needs to be done.

On 11-25 Called Lisa at customer service and she said they are no longer involved and it's up to the Independent Cottman to take care of this.

On 12-2 talked to Mark at St. Pete Cottman and Donna with Customer service, still unresolved.

On 12-6 talked to Mike at St. Pete Cottman and he said it's all up to the Nashville Cottman to resolve this. Then I talked to Ken at Nashville Cottman and he said he refunded the money back to Mike at St. Pete Cottman. I called Mike back and he said to call Jeff Walte (operations manager) left massage got no return call.

On 12-15 Talked to Mike St. Pete and he said he got the money back from Nashville Cottman. He said he would call me back.

On 1-18 Mike from St. Pete called and said he had a check for 1,703.44 but would not pay for the towing or anything else and he would not be in court on 1-22 and good luck trying to get the money owed.
