We had a platinum card for over 30 years. Living abroad with our family, it was the only card we used. We charged closet to $100K a year on the card and paid it off on time every month. When we moved back to the States, we started getting these books that we never ordered, and being charged hundreds of dollars for them. We kept having to take time to return them and get the charges removed from the bill and each year, we'd request they not send them. Every year customer service told us this would never happen and every year it did. After five years, we got fed up and cancelled the card, with a $55 credit. We kept getting bills, showing our credit. We cancelled it in February.in April, we tried to use the 30,000 points we had acrrued, after our bill came showing our credit, and were told we were too late, that they expired 30 days later. Whether that was in the fine print or not, we feel as good customers (we still have two business cards) they should just move those points to another card, but were told by customer service, tough. We were also told by the customer service person that we lived in the "rich part" of the city at the beginning of the call when we verified our zip code. We're not rich and work hard to pay bills like Amex's but they don't care. Customer service told me to write a PO Box number if I want to get the points, which is another kiss-off. Amex charges fees and when you have a problem, it's blame the customer and they never fix it. I have five children who are just coming out of college, starting careers. They will NEVER have an Amex if I can help it.
