I have a 2009 Civic LX which currently has just over 18,000 miles. I was starting to notice that my brakes were squealing. I thought that maybe my calipers were sticking on the driver’s side, so I took it in the Carey Paul Honda in Snellville GA to have it checked out. One of the service tech gave me a call about an hour later and said that my calipers were fine and said that I just needed to have my pads replaced. I asked him “Isn’t that a little premature? ” He stated that they were not covered under warranty and would cost $225.00 to put on new ones. He stated that the late model civics have been having premature wear because new compounds being used on the later civics, and that Honda hasn’t issued a recall on them as of yet. I told him that I would be down to pick up my vehicle. I asked to speak with the Service Manager and the mechanic that checked out my vehicle. I asked him that if you guys know that the later model civics are having issues with premature brake wear why won’t you cover my vehicle. To say that I was upset would be understating it a bit. I asked them “Is Honda going to follow the path of Toyota? ” People work hard for the money they spend and I understand that companies that look for cheaper ways to make cars to beat the competitors and take market share, but it shouldn’t be at the cost of their consumers. My wife and I have owned 8 Honda vehicles in our life and had considered Honda to be a very reputable company, but I guess the value of money and market share has exceeded the value of life and customer service.
