Dangerous Failures of Parts—Always After "Routine" Maintenance

Do NOT go to Toyota of Santa Barbaraespecially for service on your car. Every time we go in, we have bigger car problems when we come out. Twice during the last 14 months, routine maintenance on our PRIUS has been followed by two catastrophic failures of engine parts.in April we took her in for routine maintenance. They replaced a belt which they said was worn. A few days later this same belt failed while at speed on the freewaya super dangerous situation which luckily ended with no one injured or dead. Another shop took a look & told us the failed belt had to have been installed incorrectly by Toyota of Santa Barbara. We lost the use of the car for three days. Throughout the whole ordeal, The Unkind & Arrogant Crew at Toyota of Santa Barbara denied all responsibility. The Service Manager refused us a refund & she was quite rude when she did so. Eventually, with the kind help of the California Bureau of Automotive repair, we got some money back, but only after months of hassle with Toyota Corporate.

Even though theyre the only Toyota dealership in town, wed vowed wed NEVER go back to Toyota of Santa Barbara. But, upon receiving a recall notice about gas pedal problems, we decided to take the chance. We felt queasy about having them touch the car but, while there for the gas pedal work, we gave them permission to do an oil change. Then they suggested an inspection & we reluctantly agreed. But when we picked up the car we found that they had—without informing us— also done fuel induction service & transmission service and fill, billing us $290.39. Less than two weeks later (sounding familiar?), on the freeway again & in fast traffic, the inverter coolant pump failed, once again necessitating dicey maneuvers in order to get off the road. We had to be towed back to the rude scammers at Toyota of Santa Barbara to have the coolant pump replaced they were nearby & they were the last to have touched the PRIUS. So, in less than two weeks, after going in with a good-running PRIUS for recall work (no charge for that), with oil change— plus UNWANTED work on fuel system and transmission work plus a new inverter coolant pump our total bills came to a staggering $922.71!!!

Something is rotten at Toyota of Santa Barbara. We never have trouble with the car till we go there for service. Toyota of Santa Barbara can make you afraid to drive your own car! The Service Department at Toyota of Santa Barbara should be investigated.
