I brought in my 1995 Dodge Intrepid because the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating.
I was informed by the technician at Sun Devil Auto (Gilbert AZ) that the main cooling fan was not working and would need replacement. They then said that, "unfortunately" the fan could not be replaced separately on the car and that I would need to purchase the entire fan assembly kit. The parts and labor, which included a radiator hose and a thermostat, would cost $958.00, at a labor rate was $80 per hour.
I took the car to another private mechanic who found that the cause of the problem was actually a bad relay, which prevented the fan from working. He replaced the relay (and the radiator hose). The total parts and labor came to $146.00, at a labor rate of $50 per hour.
So, Sun Devil Auto mechanics are either liars or incompetent. I'm not which, but I don't care.
