I purchased a vehicle a few weeks back and I thought a brake inspection was in order. I stopped by the BRAKEmax on Kolb, and was told my rear brakes had roughly 10% left on them and could break at any time leaving me with "metal on metal" and it was urgent I repair them. The estimate came in at $170 for pads, $50 for hardware, and $40 for brake fluid flush. Given the times, I decided I would do the brakes myself and save some $. The upcoming weekend I had the new parts in hand to do my own brake job and when I took off my wheels, I found I had roughly 80% left on my pads and they looked almost as good as my new pads.
I am glad I took the time to do it myself as I "saved" over $250 and learned a lesson. Please don't let this company take advantage of you - get a second or third opinion.in addition, for what it is worth, I have spoken with a few other shops (that don't specialize in brakes nor quick repairs) and they claim my story is fairly common.
