Hide pricing, no estimates

I called around to get pricing to get a brake job. I talked with the owner of this shop and he refused to give me pricing for an hourly rate, brake pads, or rotors. He gave excuse after excuse why he would not give any kind of estimates on the phone. The cost of rotors, the cost of brake pads should be some what comparable. There should be no problem in giving an individual the hourly rate. When some one tries to hide these types of things from the customer, then I begin to worry.

Another thing they try and do is offer a free inspection. The words they use is it cant be cheaper than free, so come an in. Well I don't know about everyone else, but it costs me money and time to take off work. To me it seems like a market ploy to get people in, then gotcha...

I would never deal with a company that hides their pricing, be very cautious in dealing with this company.
