My wife and I bought a 2000 Plymouth Voyager from Dan Nelson Finance Center on 1-11-02. We were required to pay $1500.00 for an extended warranty added on to the contract in order to get the loan through Household Finance.
The warranty for the van is through a company known as National Warranty Insurance Company also known as Smart Choice 2000. On 9-3, we went to the shop next door to Dan Nelson (E-car Care) expecting to get our vehicle fixed per the warranty we bought. They have a cooperative agreement for service for Dan Nelson clients. Our transmission is going out on the van.
They are the only ones that can do any repairs under the warranty. They advised me that they couldnt honor the warranty because the warranty company is being liquidated and will not pay them for services rendered. I spoke with the General Manager at Dan Nelson by the name of Terry Pederson. Although pleasant he said that there was nothing he could do. We have been sold a worthless contract.
Now we have to pay out of pocket to fix the van because Dan Nelson refuses to stand behind a warranty contract they required us to buy. Not only did we have the $1500.00 added to the vehicle contract but am paying a 20% interest rate on it. We will continue to pay $300.00 in interest alone a year on a contract that is not being honored. Total price for warranty is $3000.00 for no coverage.
We want Dan Nelson to stand behind the product that we were required to purchase and fix our vehicle. If not, we want to be refunded the monies paid including the interest paid to date since we cannot use the warranty. Dan Nelson sold many of these contracts and I know that many people are affected.
FYI, The warranty we were sold only went above the original 50000 miles of the van to 75000 miles. This means we paid $3000.00 for a warranty that covers about 25000 miles. Can you say ripoff. My bad as I signed a contract knowing this. But I would expect that since I paid this insane amount of money, I should at least be covered even though the actual warranty company went into liquidation. If the seller does not back up what they sold, bad on them.
I have filed a complaint with the Attorney Genearal's Office. I wil keep all updated. If they will not pay, then I will make it my mission to notify all who bought this warranty through them about how they have a worthless piece of paper. If customer retention is their goal, they might wake up.
BTW, the warranty company is supposed to be located in Lincoln NB, but the underwriter is actually located in the Grand Cayman Islands. Makes you wonder on the decision making Dan Nelson did on choosing this company.
BTY, Dan Nelson is Formally known as JD Byrider for those locally. Reputation suspect according to many locals. May be why they changed their name.
