On September 4 I decided to get my driver's license renewed at the Springfield DMV. Never having been there before, I saw a sign for the DMV and pulled into the parking lot. As I approached the store, which was labeled DMV Service INC.- a sign stated they were closed and I was to make a right at the sidewalk and walk to the end of the block to the main DMV in Springfield. I did so and was at the main DMV for at least 45 minutes, considering it was there extended hours night. As I returned to the parking lot where my car was parked, to my surprise, it was no longer there. I thought it had been stolen, but some of the kind business owners in the same lot told me differently.
They said that this company K & G Property Management Inc. Located in NJ has towed it out using the services of Colonial Towing located at the same address. They do this every Thursday night when the DMV has extended hours because people are confused when they see the huge DMV sign and park in the lot. They have a boy stand there and watch you as you park your car and then he calls them and they immediately come with a tow truck.
I believe that K&G and Colonial are the same company. The same person picks up the phone whether you dial K&G or Colonial. He claimed on 9/5/03 that his name was Geppeto Stineberd, I am sure that isn't his real name and Michael Sampson was the name given when I picked up my car only after paying $290.00 in cash - no credit cards or checks accepted. There were about five other people who they did the same thing to there.
I also filed a police report with Springfield. There were two small signs posted in the lot that unauthorized vehicles would be towed, however I thought I was in full authorization for being in the lot for the DMV. I really wish that you can do something about this to help me and prevent further instances.
