A1 Service Centre charged me R 3830 CHASH for 5 hrs work, an oil change
& filter and new spark plugs and resetting the timing, what the
garage owner refered to as 'necessary'.
I called the Mercedes Benz
dealer garage for comparison who mentioned that this service should
have cost no more than R1800 and taken no longer than 1 hour of labor.
Interestingly, they also pointed out that new sparkplugs are only
needed if there are problems with starting the engine, and that the
timing of a E320 1999 isn't necessary and can't really be reset because
its engine software-controlled and fully automated. How come he did not
know that? When complaining about this to the workshop owner he tried
to fix the flaws but after inserting the laptop to the engine he
couldn't really fix anything but only played with the settings. Not
even the maintenance interval indicator for the oil change has been
reset; MB Cape Town would have done this for free. A1 Service Centre
never did what I have asked them for and they charged me more than
twice of what is considered normal for this kind of work!
