I had done my test drive with a specific model and color the previous week. We played the negotiating game beginning in person which then carried over into a few phone calls during the week. Over the phone we agreed on a price for the car. It turned out that they "sold" a car over the phone that they no longer had on the lot. (oops, wrong color) The salesman tried to make me pay for them to locate the correct vehicle. I insisted he speak with his manager who then agreed they would not charge me for their mistake.

When the purchase agreement was being written up they tacked on to the agreed price over eight hundred dollars. They claimed this was the "destination fee." Of course, it was not listed as a fee on the purchase agreement and, needless to say, not mentioned while the price was agreed upon.

I say "they" as there were several people involved in this interaction from sales reps to the on site manager.

When I wrote to the general manager and then spoke to him he made another agreement. I asked for this in writing. He sent an email which did not match what he said either. I wrote back for clarification and this was ignored.

I got away unscathed!
