In my opinion, the mechanics at Ventana Automotive & Tire on Houghton Road attempted to heavily overcharge my wife for routine maintenance.
My wife came in to Ventana for a regular oil change with her minivan. This was an approximately 85k mile service, 5k since last service. Honda Ody with all mechanical components in good/great shape. Service manager told her that the oil drain plug was stripped, the next largest size would not work either, and that the oil pan needed to be replaced, which cost ~$375. When she informed him that I would need to authorize that repair, he changed his story and told her it would be only $40 to put in the next largest size. When she insisted on calling me, the service manager told ME that only option now was to replace the pan. I asked him if he had ever considered cutting new threads with a tap. He immediately became flustered and said if he tapped the plug hole, it may likely cause engine failure due to metal shavings being introduced into the engine. He also said they could not use a metric tap set. I had it towed to another mechanic immediately.
