I bought this 99 ford f-350 7.3 diesel truck that was owned by a person that had every service record on it wnen i was selling cars. It had 115,000 miles on it about 8 months after the fact and when it hit 121,000 the tranny started to slip in drive and it got to the point where i had to put it in 1st then 2nd and back into drive and then it was fine for a bit.
Me being a mechanic researched the tranny and found out that in thee40d/4r100 that their was not enough line preesure to keep the automatic cluth discs cool so they would burn up. So before i took it to tanners i researched on what the upgradekit does being an exrta cooler and they bore out a bigger hole inside it and put a shift kit that prevents the shifts to be firmer so you dont get the soft shifts that ford put in stock oem.
So i towed it up their and asked if he has done one of these before and replyed oh tons. So he said that what they do is put the tranny cooler in and pull it apart to see what else it may be. It ended up being the clutches were all burnt out. So he as far as i know put new cluthes in it and the fan. So i got it back and the bill was $2506.00 and said he gave me a deal for working at a near by car dealership. But i called a few places and they said they would of done the upgrade kit and the whole nine yards for $2400 otd w / a 2year 24k mile warrannty and i come to find out that theirs is a 6 month warranty and thats it.
I drove this for about another 14,000 miles and take a wild guess it went out again the same way as the 1st time and i was livid so i went back in and they had no remorse so they said that were sorry its out of warranty. And what ticked me off is he said they make a sure cure kit that was not out when he did the 1st one. And i brought it to his attention that he lied to me and that kit has been out for 3 or 4 years and why did'nt you put that in the first time and he ignored me and i asked him how much is this one going to be and he said around $2400 and i could not believe this s—t.
So i told him what kit i would like to put in it which it was the sur cure kit or sonnax kit with a - good torque converter. So i stopped in expectedly to see what was being put in and he had a few individual parts that were sonnax but not the kit i told him. And he said oh this is what we always use and then told him that i thought this was new to you and made up another lie!!! So a week later i got it back and paid the theives $2250 this time. I left and heard a clunking noise took it back 25 min later and they did'nt know what it was until i fixed my self why yhey stood their.
The skidplte was touching the transfer case. And then a week later the tranny started slipping again and i tok it in they pulled it out and put it on there dyno and said it was fine. Put it back in and drove great. About 7 months after that it did it again. Ispoke with him and said to bring it down but i do not want them to touch it. I lost about 2 months of work and they are in to me $4800 and i am going to try to see if they will refund me my money so i can take it to another place that has a heavy duty built tranny and torque converrter w / a 6 year 75k warranty for $2800otd.
I did find out two things about these crooks 1 being they build trannys so they will last about 6 months and this i heard from a employee that worked their 5 years ago and last i called ford and they have to take your truck to ford so they can flash the upgraded tranny to the computer in your truck and they never did that. Gephart is aware of this ordeal if they dont do anything. If any one has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks
