I bought two cars from what I thought was an honest dealership. I enjoyed working with my salesman and felt he was being completely honest with. After looking and driving a few of the same model VW Passats I found one that I liked. After a few minutes on the road the check engine light came on. When I got back I mentioned to him that it came on. He assured me that it is under warranty and that it had already been checked out and was a simple fuel cap malfunction. Before leaving I stated that I was interested in the car but was concerned about the check engine light either way. I contacted him and said I am interested in the car and the salesman assured me that he would have the car checked out again.
After buying the car my wife drove it off the lot. About 10 minutes into the drive she noticed the light came on. At that point I called and he stated that it was all checked out and only a fuel cap. Then a few more miles down the road my wife stated that the brakes are grinding. So when we stopped I called and let him know. He once again said that it was checked out and was fine and that when the car sits in weather change it will grind a little bit and it will stop. I was about to take a trip with my wife and 7 month old son to Chicago where we were moving. So after driving over 800 miles I continued to have that grinding sound and once again I called and he stated it takes time to wear off.
I finally had the car checked out after our long trip and there were no brakes pads on the front and rear and I needed total new rotors on the front and rear. Not only that but I had the check engine checked and was informed that there was some other serious issues and that it had not been checked. I called the salesman many times and never received a return call. I had to drive back to the area after moving so I went in to see him. He acted like he was sorry but said he would do nothing to help. I stated to him that he had risked my family on the road with no brakes and that he lied when he told me about the check engine light. He stated he just repeats what the inspection place tells him. I have now had to drop a major amount of money into this car. The person that worked on my car let me know that this was common for Auto World he had many dealings with customers in the same place.
I would have never taken this car if he would have been honest and did not lie to me about the check engine light. I know the tricks of a VW and to get the check engine light off and this is exactly what they did when I picked the car up.
I guess I learned that there really are not honest car salesman even though I did trust this guy.
