Towards the beginning of December I went into American Brake and Muffler to get a tune-up because my car had been running hard and needed one for the winter anyway and to get my heat fixed because it would take long to blow and when it did sometimes it would quit. I also had my 8 month old daughter with me. So, the manager did the diagnostic and found that my water pump was leaking. I knew that I also needed my camber adjusted and asked how much that would be. He gave me a much better price ($70 compared to $300) than the initial place that had quoted me. I agreed to come back the following day for that work to be done.
When I went back for the camber to be adjusted, I dropped the car off because of the time it would take. While I was gone the manager called me and told me that my outer tire rod was worn out. I proceeded to tell him that they (American) had just fixed my tire rods 3 months ago. He told me to check my receipt because it must have been the inner tire rod. Well my receipt was in my car so I authorized him to fix it because he was so sure that the inner looked new and the outer needed to be fixed. When I got home I looked at my receipt and sure enough BOTH (inner and outer on both sides) tire rods had been replaced. I called the manager and he told me that since I needed new brakes and brake pads that he would credit me for the difference on the brake job. My boyfriend and I went to the shop the following day and spoke with the owner and showed him the receipt (which showed 2 different prices for the tire rods) and he agreed that it was something faulty and refunded me $185 for the tire rods and apologized.
A few days later, my check engine light came on and my back wheels began to swirve (it had snowed). My brand new tires, not even 6 months old were BALD! I drove my boyfriends truck back and forth to work until I had time to take the car to get looked at. We took my car to Miller brake and muffler and the manager there told me that my rear control arms were bent in so badly that they were rubbing against my tires causing them to go bald and that only 1 of 2 things could cause this. He said either my car was towed improperly or someone lifted my car improperly. When I notified American, the manager told me that they use pinchpoints. When my boyfriend spoke with him he told him that they didn't even look for that on my car so they couldn't have spotted and then he changed his story again and said that maybe I hit something. He refused to admit fault or to even check it out to make sure it wasn't his fault.
American Brake and Muffler is a scam and depending on the time of day and the person they will charge whatever they feel and do whatever they feel to get you back to pay more money ESPECIALLY if you are a woman.
