Alexander Toyota Of Franklin Tn Dealership "looks out for customer" by selling $865 extended warranty to 86 year old woman

In Feb my 86 year old aunt purchased a new Toyota Camry from this dealership. A high ranking county official and friend of the family called the owner and ask him to lookout for her best interest given her age and diminished capacities. The owner referred her to the general sales manager and he sold her the car. I have no idea if it was a good deal or not and that is not the issue. He also sold her a $865 extended warranty that took the standard warranty of 36 months/36000 miles to 72 months and 60000 miles. He knew she drove very few miles/year because she traded in a 2002 model with extremely low mileage. Unless she lived to be 92 and increased her driving habits many times over every year, she would never have need for any of this warranty. She recently became unable to drive at all and I was given the task of selling her car. I was amazed to find she had driven this new car less than 4000 miles IN THREE YEARS. I went through her paperwork and found the extended warranty and immediately went to the dealership to question them about the document. I told the general sales manager (the same one that sold her the car) that I had a problem with him selling her this obviously useless and probably high profit warranty. His answer was he "was just looking out for the customer". He did agree to cancel the warranty and since I had read the cancellation part of the policy, which was vague at best, I told him I felt a full refund was in order. He said he would check with the owner and get back to me, which he never did. I felt a little more comfortable after talking to a lady in the business office who actually cancelled the policy. She said she felt that at worse, MOST would be refunded since none of it was used.

I sold the car yesterday and called Toyota to get the payoff and saw the refund hadn't hit so I called the company that issued the policy if cancellation had been done and they said yes, several days ago and the dealership should have it. I called the dealership and was told the "check was in the mail". I asked how much the refund was and was told it was barely half the original amount. At that point I asked to speak to the gen sales mgr again and asked why only half and he said the issuing company made that determination. I ask if that were correct, why did he tell me he needed to speak to the owner if they weren't involved in the decision. At that point the conversation went downhill and I told him the deal stunk and he said thats the way it is and hung up. I have no monetary interest in this complaint, only the desire to see a company do the right thing by an 86 year old woman that has been taken advantage of after all precautions were taken to see if that didn't happen. I promised the gen sales mgr he would get far more than the $400 worth of grief over this deal and this is the start.
