Midas has been advertising a $14.99 oil & filter change (most cars?)
On Jan 28 I took my 2002 Subaru to the store for an oil change. First, I was informed that my car required 5W-30 Oil and that was more expensive than 10W30. I figured a couple of dollars more might do it so I told them to go ahead. They also asked me if I wanted the washer reservoir filled and I told them to do it.
Shouldn't have been charged more than a couple of dollars. When the work was completed I was told that the charge was $24.28. I was not given a completed work order showing a breakdown of charges.instead I was told there was a "disposal fee" involved, 5 quarts of oil, 1 filter, and CT state tax.
On Feb 10, I took my 1997 Honda Civic to the same store for the same service. I made sure the washer reservoir was filled before I left home. I figured it hould be cheaper because the car uses only 4 quarts of oil. Well, when it was done I was charged $25.31, $1.03 more than the other car, even though it took 1 less quart of oil. I was also told that this car requires 5W30 oil, another surcharge. Again, I was not given a breakdown of prices nor a completed work order.
I'm still trying to figure out how a $14.99 oil change can come out to over $25.00, even including a filter, disposal charge and 6% sales tax.
I realise that my complaint is small potatoes compared to some of the others I've read, but a ripoff is a ripoff.
