Engine needs replacement at under 74,000 miles

On June 23rd I took my car to the Toyota dealership located in Long Beach, CA on Long Beach Blvd. There was a loud noise coming from the hood and an engine light was on. I was charged $85 for a diagnosis of the problem. I was told the problem was that the air flow sensor needed to be replaced and there was no engine oil in the car. I was very surprised to hear this since I had just had the oil changed a few months ago. I paid a little under $400 for the air flow sensor, oil change, and labor. On August 21st I experienced more car trouble and I was told the car would need a new engine! What?! I then did some online researching and found that I was one of many experiencing this same problem. Tomorrow I will contact the Toyota corporate office and begin the process of trying to have them replace the engine. I also found out that there is a problem with the air flow sensor. I also found out that they could have attempted to repair the sensor but instead chose to charge for a completely new sensor instead. They also attempted to charge me for 2 hours of labor. However, I found out from another Toyota Technician (Manager) that the sensor could be replaced in less than 30 minutes.
