Please see the documents refering to the transmissions in gmc vehicles. We had the same problem with our 1996 gmc sierra. First the rear-end completely shifted and my husband had to realign then it started shifting hard from 1st to 2nd and making grinding noises, it would sometimes refuse to go into gear.
The truck left him stranded with our 2 year old son when it was 20 degrees outside. It is costing us 1300.00 to have the tranny rebuilt. The repairman said that he cannot promise that we will not have more problems beacuse they are not sure waht the actual cause is.
You know you have a lemon when the transmisson repairman tells you to get it to the dealer anyway possible and trade it in. He says he has seen way too many like this. The actual transmission model is 4l60E.
