October 6. I was delivering pizza for a local pizza shop when i was attacked, robbed and beat with a club by several individuals.
I had a grand maul seizure as a result of the head injury just before extensive brain and reconstructive skull surgery (titanium plates) to hold my skull together.
As a result of this incident i was no longer allowed to drive.
Not much longer after i was released from the hospital i recieved a bill from progressive for aproximatly $200.00. When my payment was normally around $100.00
I called to question the amount. She said it was the balance remaining on the account.
I explained to the woman what had happened to me. She told me to just send in half of the payment now, and the next month i would recieve a bill telling me to pay the balance within a certain amount of time.
I asked if i would be charged any fees she said no so i sent half.
December 28th i recieve a notice that my policy was canceled on december 21st the letter was dated the 24th.
Along with a bill that said i owed $163.97 $60.00 of it was late and cancellation fees.
I could not understand why i was being charged all of these fees since i sent in half of the payment like she had said.
So i called and they pretty much told me to go fly a kite.
I refused to pay the late and cancelation fees so the turned it over to a collection agency and put the $163.97 against my credit.
It's sad how such a large company takes advantage of someone when they are in a terrible situation like mine,
I am still disabled and living on about nothing a month. While progressive is laughing all the way to the bank.
I'm sure i am not the first person this has happened to and i won't be the last. Watch out for progressive!!!
