Pep Boys
Rip off, extra work means extra charge without knowing, and revenge

To make a long story short. The Mehcanics at Pep boys in El Cajon looked at my car 3 different times for a misfire and came up with something different every time.in all i had spent 4 different trips to the store and yelling at the manager telling him what to do to eliminiate the problem. My bills totalled over $400. There could actually be several different factors with a misifire, most of the time it is something electric. I know quite a bit about cars is what Pep Boys did not know. I had a very good idea what it was, i didn't have the time to figure it out and fix it myself. All i asked them to do the first time is to replace the spark plugs. They not only replaced my spark plugs but my spark plug wires with suppossedly some kind of high performance wires, that were actually garbage.

The first time I asked for the original spark plug wires. Upon closer inspection someone had cut them very carefully and told me they were arcing causing the misfire. Also one of the boots supposedly came off the wire when the mechanic pulled off the wires with a special tool, (its called a spark plug puller). His explantion was the boot was burnt off from arcing as well and it ripped off. Bullshit.

To let you all know that boots just don't burn out. It took me quite some strength to pull off one of those boots from the wire because i demonstrated it by doing it. I did this in front of the manager. I was so fed up with these cheats and shady mechanics after two more frustrating visits.

I did some research at work and Contacted the BEREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR, talked to a representative and had a complaint form all filled out ready to go. I went down to Pep Boys with 2 copies of this complaint two for me and one for the manager and told him to his face in front of about twenty people he had 10 minutes to refund my money and insisted that i get a free oil change in 30 minutes before i faxed it to the BERAEU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR. I had my money in two minutes and had an oil change within 15 minutes in front of several other people. Everybody that was standing behind me when i confronted him, left. He did not argue with me and sat there stunned when i told him which bereau i had talked to. Not a lot of people know about them. This whole incident was also after several phone calls were made to the managers, staff and after a three month span. I just raised holy hell that's all.

The BEREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR complaint forms are mainly used against car dealerships and can be downloaded from the internet and can be faxed to the headquarters. Some business's do shady business like that are familiar with them. They want nothing to do with the BEREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR. Just Google them and you have all the info you need.

Oh by the way some extra info. Most places will charge you to diagnose your car which basically hook up a small computer and pull codes and charge between 50-70 dollars. It's a hand held one, which is the same one you can use at any auto store. Most auto stores will let you use theirs if you give up your drivers licence for about 10 minutes. They very to use and they have instructions on them. It takes about 22 seconds to see the codes, but that is only if you have a check engine light. THE DIAGNOSTICS TOOL is only for the check engine light and can be very useful if you want to be armed with right information. It will tell you exactly what is wrong with your car. That diagnostics tool line that everybody tells you is a f*ing lie. Simply do it yourself before you go have work done on your car and thats only if the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I did the same thing before i took my car to Pep Boys the first time. HEHEHE im glad i could share my horrible experince with other people.
