Automotive center stole my brake system

This happened last year. I've complained to Sears on numerous occasions and have been completely ignored. I've gotten nothing, not even a "we got your complaint" letter.

September I brought my 1994 Chevy Lumina into Sears automotive to have the brake line repaired. I got a phone call the next day from them telling me that my entire brake system fell off the car and it would cost $1500 to put it back! I'd just had break pads and rotors put on a month before the brake line broke so I knew they weren't so bad they required a full overhaul.

I told them that I'd be by to pick up my car the next day and have it repaired by a more reputable mechanic, to which they refused to release the car, stating that it was unsafe. I went into the store that day to get my keys and while the automotive manager was telling me that my car was unsafe and it was against the law to release it, they were releasing a car to another customer&and telling him how to work the gear shift so it wouldn't slip out of gear! I ended up leaving the store because I had to get to work.

The next day I sold the car to a friend for her son to tinker with. She went to Sears with the bill of sale and a tow truck to pick up the car, again they refused. She went into the car and got the title and took the plates off the car so they could be transfered to my new car. The mechanic threatened to call the police on her (who is now the rightful owner) for theft, and called her nasty names.

She left without the car (she had her son with her and he was getting scared they would be arrested). The next morning I called the store and told them that a tow truck would be there to pick up the car, I didn't owe any money on it and they had no reason to keep it. If they did not release the car, I would file a theft report with the local police. They finally released the car.

When my friend got the car to her house, they had put a baggie of rusted, dirty parts (that weren't even brake parts!) on the front seat. Everything under the car that had to do with the brake system was gone, pads, rotors, calipers, and both brake lines. They'd basically stolen the brake system. It cost $700 to get the parts and get everything put back so the car would again be driveable.
