I bought a 1998 Pontiac Transport Minivan from Port Town in mid- August. It looked good except for the driver side door lock (from the inside appeared damaged) They promised to pay to fix this. I put down $1500 and $500 for the taxes, tags and Title. The van had a thirty day 1000 mile warranty.
I too saw that the van had no fluids in it and asked about it. I know that the girl in Landover tells the truth because they told me the same... That they would top off the fluids for me. I drove the van for a week and noticed green fluid leaking form under the front end. It was anti-freeze.
I reported this to the sales girl and she says oh you probably just need a tune up. I told her at that time that I didn't want this car. She continued to try to smooth me over. I reported the leak several more times to no avail. They continued to give a bunch of excuses.
Soon the car began to over heat. It was suggested that it was the water pump. I replaced it.
Less than a week after my warranty expired, my head gasket blew. Port Town refused to pay to fix. They asked me to get estimates. I obtained three. They refused to use one.instead they made me go to their mechanic. The mechanic fixed it I guess. It stopped overheating. Another mechanic looked at it and said that they put a sealant into the block.
Port town has yet to give me the receipt for the $500 they were to pay their mechanic for their 50/50 warranty. I paid $500 and they said that they paid $500. As far as I know they paid nothing since they won't produce the receipt for the service.
Next, in December, my steering wheel started to get real tight, hard to turn. A mechanic says that it was my power steering pump. I bought the pump and replaced it. That was about $300 for parts and labor. When my mechanic lifted it up after putting the pump on, he saw that the rack was bad.
In January 08, I just spent $318 on a rack, $55 for outer tire rods and $175 on the labor. Now when I accelerate the car hesitates.
I went to the owner to voice my frustration. I asked that he simply keep the same pay arrangement but give me a car that works. He said the he couldn't do that. He offered to defer my payment until March 08.
* *Port Town Motors is A NO-NO! * * DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this car lot. * Unless you are maybe a mechanic that wants to refurbish old junk... Because that is exactly what they sold to me... WHAT WILL LOOK GOOD to you on the outside is most likely * * A PIECE of JUNK! * * buyer's * * beware! * *
