In April we called Findley Nolte Honda and asked if they had any automatic cars that could be towed flat, on all for wheels. We have to be specific since we are full-time RV'ers and live in our motorhome. They said the Honda Civic can be flat towed.
We went to Kingman, talked with two different salesmen and they re-confirmed that it can be towed flat and even offered to put on a tow bar for us. We bought the car, left and bought all the neccessary tow equipment.
We have been towing it for about 10,000 miles. Then in Canada pulling away from a stop sign wheels locked up, jerked the motorhome and had to be towed into a Honda dealership in Canada. Transmission had to be completely replaced. Since we can not tow it now we had to buy a tow Dolly and all the equipment that goes with it. We have been stuck in Canada for a week getting it repaired and looking for a Dolly. We have approximately $6000 invested in Findley's mistake.
When calling them and explaining what happened and what would they do to help, they stated that it is not under warrenty since it was towed. When we stated that they told us it could be towed, they stated "you can't prove it ". Big companys should be liable for what they sell to the public.
Findley Honda also stated when we bought the car that they have sold many to RV'ers to tow. We were just coming off a stop sign, what if someone is going 50 mph on the Hwy and this happens? There may be some serious injuries then.
I do believe Findley Honda should be held responsible for the problems we have had and reimburse us for the monies we are out on our new car. No one should be treated this way and expect return business.
