On last friday I broke down on my home from work. A few blocks up the road was Peakes auto, which I had never before been to, but I managed to make it up into there driveway. The front passenger tire was missing three of the five lugs, so they removed the tire and changed all of the lug bolts out and I also purchased two new front tires. They got all this done and broke both of my rims and the trim that goes onto the tires and just tossed them in the front floorboard.
As I went to pull off the car was still making a popping noise as I drove forward. They put it up on the rack and looked underneath and said it was something to do with a bracket and the drive shaft. He called about a new part and after waiting about 30 minutes he comes and tells us ok, they have the part at the local Kia dealership, but they won't be able to deliver it here until at least 12:30, which was the time she had to be to work. So we drove over to the Kia dealer ourselves and got the part. This is a 14 mile roundtrip. When we got back we left the part with him and we went to eat breakfast.
Upon returning they had the whole drive shaft and all the bearings and everything to do with the drive shaft removed. He told us we had to go back to Kia and get more parts. He did not even know what parts or what they were called, so he told the other guy who had took it apart to put all the parts he had into an empty oil case and give it to us to take with us. He told us to take it all over to Kia and lay it out and just tell them we needed whatever was missing. We stood there another 25 minutes while he filed away at the bolt on the drive shaft and then tried to put the nut back on, took it off and filed some more and even took the air drill to it and drilled away at it.
Then he comes over and tosses it in the box and says and while your at it see if they have another one of these nuts, this one is kinda stripped. And have them print us out a printout showing how everything goes, so we can get it put back together properly. We went all the way back to Kia and spent another hour there and got the other parts and the printout.
When we returned and I showed him the printout and told him what the tech at Kia said he said no, they never even sent this one bearing and we cant use it, you need to go back over and tell him no and get one. At this point I had been awake for 35 hours as I work night shift, I was not in a good mood and I finally told them nevermind I was going to just have it towed to Kia and let them fix it. He charged me another fifty dollars in Labor just to take all this apart and destroy it. I missed a nights work and my mom was 4 hours late from staying with me and running me back and forth to Kia.
Kia finally got around to looking at the car this morning (Monday) and called with an estimate of 290.00, which I told them this was fine and go ahead and get it done. It was not 20 minutes later he called me back from Kia and told me that I needed another part, that the driveshaft was all screwed up and the bolt was all mangled and stripped from where Peakes removed it. And that he had to order one and it would be another 500.00.
So now it will be another couple days wait, I will have to pay 140.00 to rent a car so I won't miss anymore work all because of there negligiance of stripping the bolt on this 500.00 part.
