Haik's German Autohaus
Charged me $597.33 for an oil change, a fuel filter, an air filter, and two fuel hoses

Letter to Haik:
On or about 11/8/06, I telephoned Haik's German Autohaus and asked to have my 1997 BMW 528i undergo the Level II Servicing. You told me you were familiar with the BMW Level II Service/Inspection and you would perform the service for approximately $550. We scheduled an appointment for 11/15/06 at 10:00 A.M.

On 11/15/06, I appeared at your business at 10:00. However, you were late so I left my keys with my telephone number and a note reminding you that the car was there for the Level II Service/Inspection.

When I went to pick up the car at 4:30 that day I was shocked to learn that you had failed to perform the Level II Service/Inspection. However, you handed me a bill for $732.33 and refused to hand me the car keys until I had paid. I asked why you had failed to perform the service: to include replacing the spark plugs and transmission oil etc., and you said this would have required additional charges.

I told you I felt that I had been taken advantage of and you told me not to return. I insisted that you remove the $48.50 charge for replacing my perfectly fine wiper blades and remove a charge of $78.50 for two cabin filters. You reluctantly did so. However, the bill remained $597.33 and I couldn't get the keys until I paid.

You said that you had performed an inspection but you were unable to locate the inspection report so you never provided me with the inspection report. Therefore, it is as if the inspection never happened since I don't know what the inspection revealed. Furthermore, the BMW manual clearly states that the Level II Service/Inspection requires the mechanic to REPLACE SPARK PLUGS; CHANGE OIL IN TRANSMISSION; CHANGE OIL IN AXLE; REPLACE BRAKE FLUID; REPLACE COOLANT, and REPLACE THE OXYGEN SENSOR.

You did none of the above. You effectively charged me $597.33 for an oil change, a fuel filter, an air filter, and two fuel hoses (Invoice #4001). I have since learned that the Better Business Bureau has received a prior complaint about your business.

You should have only been paid $103.85, the cost of the fuel filter, 4 clamps, 2 fuel hoses, 1 bulb, and the oil change. I should not pay the $493.48 for an alleged inspection that failed to complete any of the required service and failed to include the inspection report. Remember, you couldn't find the inspection report when I went to pick up the car so I never received it.
