Heard a little squeaking from the brakes on my brother's 1988
Toyota van while borrowing it for a little vacation cruise down
Coast Highway in Southern California.
I had a few friends in Long Beach, California, so I stopped at
Pepboys in Long Beach on Coast Highway, near the traffic circle.
They promised a "free" estimate in one hour.
At 11:43 A.M., Tuesday, October 28th I left the van
and went to my friend's house about two miles away for a rest. One hour later I called and they were too busy to do the estimate and asked me to call back.
Four hours later they finally gave me an estimate of $256.00 and promised it that night, before they closed.
Wrong! They were short handed and couldn't get to it until the
next morning, they said. Okay, I said, by noon so I can continue my vacation-they promised in writing it would be ready at 1:00P.M. At the latest Wednesday, Oct. 29th. Wrong! Never touched by anyone at 1:00P.M.-They apologized, gave me a whopping $10.00 discount and promised it by 5p. M Wed. Night. Wrong! They needed a couple of hours more, maybe 7:00 P.M. Wrong again!
At 6:30 P.M., they called my friend's house and said they broke
something and would replace it for the cost of the parts only (nice guys!), at $64.00 each X4.
It would be ready by closing (9:00 P.M.) Wrong, wrong again! Now, several days later the price has almost doubled and I still don't have the van!
