Repossessed My Car Even Though I Was Making My Payments ripoff

In September I financed a car through Wells Fargo Financial Assistance.in March they force-placed insurance on my car, as mine had expired. So, I began adding the insurance amount to my car payment (it was over $200 a month more).in September they deferred my payments until January due to Hurricane Katrina.in November we got insurance through Geico, and Wells Fargo was notified.in January when we started getting bills again, the bill contained the amount for the insurance. So, we began calling Wells Fargo.

Every month when we called, we were told to fax in our insurance declaration page and they would remove it from our bill. So, we continued to send in the regular car payment amount (around $423 a month), and every time, faxed a copy of the declaration page believing the insurance charge was not owed.

June 15, I called to make my payment, and was asked if I was calling about the repossession. When I asked what the representative was talking about, I was told that my car payment was over 140 days past due and they were repossessing my car.

Between June 15th and June 21st (when they actually had my car picked up by a towing company) I was told that the amount I was being billed for the whole time was the balance of the force-placed insurance between March and November of and they had been deducting that $200 a month from my car note.

When I told them I had been calling trying to get this resolved and was never told that the charge was for a balance on an old policy, the representative said that she could see on the computer in my records where I had been calling since February, and that each time I was told to fax in my declaration page and it would be removed. However, unless I could immediately pay the $1500 due, they were going to take my car. Needless to say, I couldn't come up with that kind of money.

We tried to buy another car, but no one (not even these loan shark car lots) will finance us because Wells Fargo is reporting on my credit report that I was over 140 days late on my loan. I also found out through a letter they sent me in the mail that the day they repossessed my car, they declined me on an auto loan. At no point did I (or would I EVER) apply for a loan with Wells Fargo. Apparently, they were screening me for my own loan, and then declined it based on information they were filing against me incorrectly.

DO NOT EVER finance a vehicle through Wells Fargo. This is not the only issue we have had with them, just the final, and obviously worst, one.

They will not talk to me on the phone. When I give my account number, I am immediately switched over to "the company who is now handling my account, " New Chances Group. Every time I call, I am immediately put on hold by an answering machine, and every time I called, I hung up after no one picked up after 15 minutes. I have left messages with this service, never to be returned. I also have a lawyer friend who has written several unanswered letters to them.

This is beyond ridiculous. It should be criminal. I paid the note I agreed in writing to pay. I also paid for the force-placed insurance when I knew it was owed to Wells Fargo. I even tried for 5 months to get the insurance issue with my bill resolved by re-faxing them my insurance declaration page over and over and over, all the while being told that it would be removed from my account.
