On June 8 I brought my car in for I thought would be a very simple repair. I needed a new battery. They took my keys from me and promptly retrieved my vehicle from the lot outside. My car was LOCKED and all the windows rolled up. I signed paperwork which I read very carefully. As soon as I received my keys back I paid and went to my car. I didnt even start it when I realized my 3rd generation Ipod was missing from the center consel.
Now, I know I probably shouldnt have left it there but I ALWAYS leave it there and it isnt really something I think twice about. I usually trust in the good of people and dont ever assume that someone will steal something. I went back into the store and the "supervisor" of the service department told me that the person who was working on my car had never been accused of stealing. Obviously several people had access to my car while it was in their garage.
They offered me nothing and told me, "well, you car is kind of messy anyway." or "how do we know you had one?" however, they seemed to magically know exactly what it looked like! The color, the size, everything. The supervisor also proceeded to explain to the young (early 20s) technician "what an Ipod is." They let me stand there and cry and beg for it back. I was offered nothing at all. I am sure this happens all the time. I am a young woman, and I probably looked fairly impressionable going in there. However, they dont know who they are messing with. The police strongly recommended that I take this to small claims. I read over all the documents I signed and nowhere did it state that they are not responsible for lost or stolen property. Nowhere. I am absolutely livid. I just want my ipod back...
