Ripoff, bad brake job-said replaced and didn't-quoted $69.00 actual price $529.71, owner rude and unhelpful

My 76 yr old father took his '97 hyundai elantra in because his brakes were squeeking. His car was only driven 2 times per month and had 30,000 miles on it. The tech quoted him $69.-99.00 for front brakes and said the front brakes were the only thing wrong with the car. When my father arrived back, he was surprised that the bill said $529.71!!!

No phone call or permission to do that work was made—the tech informed my father that by law they have to do the work to the car whether it is approved or not and cannot let him take the car until the work was paid for. Thank god he had a credit card as he is on social security and retirement.

The tech told him that the rotars were bad and the front wheel bearings were bad so they were also replaced. A few days later my father took his car back to this place as the brakes were still squeeking and grinding—the owner told him they hadn't "settled" yet. He had never heard of that but left only to return 4 days later with the same problem.

Over the next 3 months he went back to this establishment 10 times only to be turned away stating that sometimes it can take up to 6 months for brakes to fully settle!!! I finally called (his only daughter) and started talking to techs and the owners husband, tom. They did not offer to re-fix the problem or refund any money and advised me that they were the only contact for the company.

He said they did not have a corporate office to report to. Finally after not being able to get the problem corrected, i had to take it to a reputable mechanic who fixed the problem and advised me that the $250.00 my father had spent on the front wheel bearings was for nothing as they were factory bearings still in the car—

He also wanted to know why in the world they would replace front wheel bearings on a car that only had 30,000 miles on it—said that they usually don't wear out until 80,000-100,000 and he had never seen them wear out before. I then called all tune and lube again and the owner said they did not work on commission and would never sell anything that someone didn't need...

But the next day i called and disguised my voice and spoke to a tech and asked him if they worked on commission, that my husband wanted to work there and wanted to know, and he said "oh yeah"! I again called all tune and lube and told them the problem had been fixed and they should refund my father atleast the $250.00 for the bearings, but they refused.

Finally i got some info from someone at the bbb about a corporate office even for franchises so i emailed them. Someone got back in touch with me and basically told me i was an idiot to have gotten the car fixed somewhere else and that he couldn't help—i should have let my father drive for another 5 months with bad brakes—

Incidentally the other mechanic fixed exactly what all tune and lube said they fixed 3-4 months previously.
Do not go here for an oil change or anything else—this is the 4th person they have quoted and over charged that i know of!
