AIG Car Insurance
Ripoff

Vehicle: 2003 Chevrolet Impala

In October I purchased a used vehicle from a dealer here in Kansas City after I had paid my other vehicle off. I had dropped the full coverage insurance on the other vehicle with another company. When I attempted to add the newly purchased vehicle to the policy they could not add it. I was going to be married soon and my soon to be wife needed a vehicle to drive. I checked other insurance companies in the area and found that AIG gave me the best rate on both vehicles. Full coverage on the new vehicle and liability on the older vehicle. I paid approximately $215.00 and was told that I would have to make another payment of $146.00 on or before 12/06/05. Well I decided that I did not want to fight with making the monthly payments until I got my money situation straightened out. So at the end of November I went ahead and paid the full amount of $703.00 to pay the policy in full until 05-11-06. I purchased two money orders and sent them in the mail along with a letter explaining that I wanted to pay the policy in full for the six months. I included my name and information in the letter along with the policy number and all other information I felt they needed. I mailed them in and left it at that. I was never contacted by AIG or received any mail or phone calls from them after I mailed the money orders to them. On 04-15-06 my wife
was involved in an accident a couple of blocks from our house. Apparently she was at a stop sign and when she started pulling out another vehicle came out of no where and she struck the vehicle. A police report was completed and she was issued a citation. This is when the nightmare started. I was contacted by AIG and told that they did not cover me since December 20 due to non payment. I had received no cancellation notice or bills from them at any point in time. On the same day I received the letter from them telling me that my claim was not covered I or received a notice from a collection service telling me this is second notice for not paying AIG the amount of $69.00. I would like for someone to explain to me how this could be the second notice when I had not received the first notice. I have spoke on the telephone half a dozen times with an AIG representative and all I get told is the coverage had expired. Needless to say I at this point in time am unable to find the receipts for the money orders and have no proof that I paid it. AIG is going to deny the claim at this point in time. I cannot afford to hire an attorney or pay for the other person's vehicle and am at a total loss as to what to do at this point in time. Due to the recent marriage and her three children I and currently living pay check to paycheck and she is not working at the present time due to health issues.
