My Brother and Sister in-law once traded in their car for newer car at automax in Oklahoma city. While waiting on the approval from the bank for their loan, they noticed problem after problem with their newly attained car. Automax attempted to fix each problem as they arose but another one would surface almost immediately after the previous problem was fixed. After noticing right away that this car was a lemon, my Brother and Sister in-law returned the car to automax before the bank could give it's approval and requested their old car back (which is allowed under the Oklahoma lemon law).
The head manager in charge of this automax at the time immediately became verballly abusive and began yelling. He called my brother a liar and my sister in-law a liar as well. He claimed he had a degree in psychology and that he "knew" they were lying and was not about to give them their car back. Things got so bad that my brother actually called 911 on his cell phone to report the verbally abusive and semi-violent behavior of the manager there and the violation of the lemon law. The 911 operator did inform my brother that under the lemon law, he was allowed to get his car back, but the manager still refused, still angry, still verbally abusive.
The 911 operator did not send officers out to the scene due to the fact that this situation wasn't an immediate emergency and advised my brother to file a complaint with the police department. Before this situation could escalate any further, the bank informed the dealership that it was rejecting the request for a loan. This action forced automax to give my brother and sister in-law their car back whether they wanted to or not. Thereby avoiding legal proceedings.
My message to other consumers is DON'T EVER BUY FROM AUTOMAX. This business hires unstable, violent people who deliberately break the law and probably get away with it most of time due to lack of legal knowledge on the customer's part.
Had the bank not rejected my brother's loan request, this situation would have gotten worse. The rejection turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
