Mitsubishi Motors ripoff on extended warranty & gap insurance

In July '03 we bought a Montero from Riverside Mitsubishi which included an extended warranty ($1500) and gap insurance ($400). We paid off the loan early (8/05) and the finance company included a note with the title we may be eligable for a partial GAP insurance refund. We contacted the GAP insurance company (The Aegis Group) and found out Riverside Mitsubishi never filed/purchased the GAP insurance, they pocketed the money and gave us phoney paperwork. The rep at Aegis seemed familiar with our problem as well as Riverside Mitsubishi and told us to contact the MA Attorney General office... Which we have.

After checking this site and seeing a complaint that Riverside Mitsubishi also pocketed extended service warranty payments we checked out the status of ours and suprise... Our "extended warranty" doesn't exist either, only on the phoney paperwork they provided us with.

The dealership is out of bussiness and I contacted Mitsubishi Motors to try to find any contact info or how to go about getting a refund, I was told "Mitsubishi Motors has nothing to do with my problem, the problem is with the dealership". I didn't even get the satisfaction of getting rude before they hung up on me, but I guess they are pretty busy dealing with the the massive credit fraud their CT dealerships pioneered.

The MA AG office has a suit against the dealership but as they went out of bussiness in 2003 and we didn't find out we were ripped off until 2005 they advised us since we are not part of the suit filed they will review our complaint but will most likely never receive any compensation. I asked about filing criminal charges and was also told it is a civil matter, guess all you need is an INC after your name and you're free to rob anybody.

We would have never know we had no gap insurance if we didn't pay off early (or had an accident, same with the extended warranty). I just checked our other vehicles to make sure what we paid for was purchased and all I can say (and do for now on) is to always check you have what you paid for, a signed contract from a Mitsubishi dealership means nothing.
