I have been with Geico for 3 years, never had an accident, never reported anything. I have always paid my policy and they have always been very friendly on the phone. Recently I had my license suspended for two months due to tickets. When I received my bill for the next 6 months for Geico, my insurance went from $280 every 6 months to $2000 every six months. I thought this was OUTRAGEOUS and there is NO WAY I could afford that. Since I wasn't going to be able to drive for 2 months, I decided not to renew with Geico and just let my policy expire until I was able to get my license back and then shop around for a new company. However, when I called Geico to see if they could give me a lower rate, they claim that I owe them $200 for 12 days of insurance from the time my insurance was due, until the time they actually cancelled it. The $200 is the pro-rated $6months coverage and not what I had been paying for the last 3 years ($280/6months). I called and expressed my frustration with the matter, and the lady kept saying that they assummed I wanted to keep Geico, so they charged me for those 12 extra days and then since they hadn't heard from me, they cancelled the policy. I told her the reason they didn't hear from me is because I didn't want that policy, and I never signed anything that said that I did! Her response was that I never signed anything that said that I didn't want it. Kept going back and forth and still in the process of desputing this charge.
Another thing the lady said was that supposedly GEICO must wait at least 10 days before cancelling the insurance "by law", and hence them billing me for those 12 days. If there is anyone out there who can help, it would be greatly appreciated. They are trying to screw me over for something I never signed for!!
