Rented a truck for a one way move from Fort Collins, CO to Steamboat Springs CO. Started driving up the first big mountain pass in the snow. Turned on the heat/defrost, boom nothing but cold air. Made it over the pass barely able to see out the windshield. It stopped snowing after I made it over the pass, cold but was able to cover up with a uhaul blanket on the legs and drive.
Got near the final pass to Steamboat and it started to blizzard, and I saw that the chain laws were in effect. There I was at the small town of Kremling and there was no way I was driving that last leg in a blizzard without a defroster. I made my way to a small mom and pop Uhaul dealership. The lady would not even lift the cowling without a PO from Uhaul central. Stated "they are impossible to work with".
So I left the truck and got a lift the rest of the way home with my wife who was in her car. Called the small dealership the next day and the lady told me Uhaul told her I had to call UHaul first, report the problem before she could get a PO to fix the truck. I called the UHaul center to report the problem the rude service breakdown tech lady told me they don't fix heaters on weeknds. I explained the truck was already at a dealer and I just needed to report the problem so they could begin repairs at the dealer. The lady replied "we don't fix heaters on weekends" I told her I just need to report it. She said "well I have to go now" click! I tried calling 3 different times and got three different rude people.
So I called the dealership back and told them I had no luck with the service people. She made some more calls and finally called me and said she had authorization to fix the truck. She also said she had called Uhaul "traffic" and they said I could just leave the truck there till it was fixed.
I had my wife cancel the credit card we gave them so that they couldn't put any charges on it. Cause I knew after dealing with these assholes that if they charge us anything we would never ever be able to get it back. I was hoping the intial charge hadn't gone through so I wouldn't pay them for the rental since they rented me a broken truck. Alas it was too late.
They never did fix the heater in a week! Uhaul sent them the wrong partt. Since the weather was nice I said screw it I'll just go get the truck. Got it, cold drive home, unloaded and dropped the truck off.
3 weeks later I get a bill for $366 for the extra days I used their truck. I have tried calling anyone that will listen. No one will. I was promised a call from the regional manager twice. He never called. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever ever had. Rude rude people that just give you the runaround. I'd like to sue but I wouldn't have a clue who to sue
Avoid this company at all costs... Nightmare
