Myself and my roommate went into Clay Cooley to speak with a sales associate that had contacted us about a car. When we got there he took us out to the lot and his exact words were, "pick out any car you want". There was a charcoal gray 2003 mustang that we were very interested in and we took it for a test drive. About an hour or so later, the sales person gives us the keys and says congradulations on your new car.
SIX DAYS later we are called by another sales associate from Clay Cooley and told that it's important that we come down to the dealership because there has been a problem with our contract. I asked the associate on the phone what the problem was and he would NOT tell me what the problem was - I specifically asked if there was a problem with the price of the car and for him to tell me what the problem was and he refused! We arrived at the dealership later that evening and was told by this sales associate that we were NOT APPROVED after all on the loan for the car and that we had to choose a different car.
Even though we were both upset obviously by this news we asked the sales to tell us what options we had as far as what type of vehicle we could choose from. The salesman said, " pick any car on the lot". After that we were both furious. I told him no we are not going to do that because we did that a week ago and now you're telling us we can't have the car we really wanted. I asked him again what are the choices we have, please just give us a list of four or five cars that we can pick from. Once again the sales person told me to pick one from whole lot; by this time I was very aggitated and becoming very angry. I told the sales rep that we would leave the car there, that we did not want to buy from them.
After cooling off for about 10 minutes, I asked a different sales associate if I could please speak with the General Manager. I explained to him the situation and he went to his office got me a list of cars to look at and took us out to the lot. After about a half an hour of looking we test drove another mustang which was a 2002 and had alot more miles that he said we could get approved for. We test drove the car and didn't like it as well, felt like something was wrong with the vehicle, But decided to take the vehicle anyway. TWO DAYS after driving this car off the lot, we were at the North park mall and the car died! I called Clay Cooley and was told by their General Manager that all the people in the service dept. Had left for the day and that there was nothing they could do, but that we could bring the car in the next day!
I was wondering how I was suppose to do that considering the car would not run. A friend of ours brought us a new (75.00) battery to see if we could get the car home. After all this, come to find out the altenator went out and again when calling Clay Cooley we were told that unless the cars have a factory warranty they are sold 'as is'.
The second car breaking down isn't my biggest complaint. My biggest problem with this company is that we were lied to repeatedly from the first time we walked into the door. I have bought used cars from other dealers before and never had the 'paperwork problems' or any problems like we had with Clay Cooley. Clay Cooley takes advantage of middle income people who are trying to straighten their credit problems out and it's ridiculous for them to get away with treating people this way.
I will make sure I tell everyone I know what myself and my roommate have gone through with Clay Cooley so that no one has to go through what we've been through in the last two weeks. Thank goodness all dealerships are not like this one!!! I will never step foot on a clay cooley dealership again and neither will my family or any of my friends or co-workers!!!
